Made of mineral salts and used since Antiquity, alum stone is extracted from natural alunite mines. In its raw state, it is shaped like a transparent and odourless crystal. It also comes polished in the form of a stick, liquid in the form of a spray or as a powder.
Today, alum stone is commonly used as a natural deodorant or as an after-shave for its astringent and haemostatic qualities. In Antiquity it was mainly used as a mordant in dyeing.
